An Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is a public or nonprofit private agency designated by the state to provide the requirements of the Older Americans Act at the local level.
Area Agencies on Aging develop multi-year plans for comprehensive, community-based services, which meet the needs of the older adults in their service areas.
Area Agencies on Aging provide information and assistance on available services and advocate for needed or improved services for older adults, people with disabilities of all ages, and their caregivers.
Area Agencies on Aging monitor and evaluate services and service providers to ensure effective, efficient, and quality services.
Service Priorities
The Area Agency on Aging service priorities include the following categories:
- Access to service
- Community-based services
- In-Home services
- Nutritional services
- Elder Rights
Because local needs and resources are different in each service area, services may not be provided the same way in every community.
